三、阅读填词(每题2分,满分40分)
Passage 2
For many years, scientists thought bad childhood experiences could harm the brain for life. But a new study from Germany shows that exercise can help the brain recover.
The researchers studied 75 adults who had difficult childhoods. Some had been hurt or well cared for when they were young. The researchers used brain scans(脑部扫描) to see how different parts of the brain worker together. They found that in people who exercised often, brain areas for feelings and stress were closely connected. Exercise, they said, helped the brain work better.
The team also found that there was a best amount of exercise: about 150 to 390 minutes a week. Doing more exercise did not always bring better results.
Why can exercise help? This is because exercise can build new links between brain cells and lower stress in the body. For people with difficult childhood, exercise is like a natural medicine that helps the brain recover.
One researcher said, “A difficult childhood can make life harder, but it does not decide a person’s future.” We cannot change the past, but we can do something now to build a better future.

Passage 3
On the first day of school, our professor challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a little old lady looking up at me with a smile. She said, "Hi, handsome! I'm Rose. I'm 87 years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed, "Of course! Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have children and then travel around." "No seriously," I asked.
I was curious why she took on this challenge at this age. "I always dreamed of having a college education, and now I'm getting one," she told me. We became friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk for hours. Listening to this human "time machine" as she shared her years of wisdom and experience with me was so interesting. Over the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went.
She loved to dress up and enjoyed the attention from other students. She was living it up. At the end of the term, we invited Rose to speak at a student gathering. I'll never forget what she taught us. "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only a few secrets to staying young. You have to laugh and find humor every day.
You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. There are many people walking around who are dead, and they don't even know it," she said. "There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability," she added. "But growing up requires finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets. People usually don't have regrets for what they did, but rather for things they did not do." Rose taught by example that it's never too late to make your dream come true.

Passage 4
It was getting dark. The old man sat by the window of his small house, watching the River Esk flow by gently. Memories flooded his mind. He remembered the days when he was young and strong, when he would fish in the river and catch enough to feed his family.
Time went by fast. His children had grown up and moved out, and his wife had passed away. The old man continued to fish, but now fishing only meant a connection with the past.
After sunset, the old man picked up his fishing rod and walked down to the river bank. He cast his line into the water, waiting for a bite. Suddenly, his line moved, and he pulled in the line with great excitement. It was a big fish! In the past, he would have been proud of catching such a fish. But now, it was just a reminder of the passing of time. He let out a deep breath and decided to set the fish free.
When the old man walked back to his home, he felt lighter and freer. He sat by the window, watching the river flow by, and smiled. He knew that he would always be by the river, and that it would always be with him.
