Good morning, President of the International Mathematical Union, respected committee members, fellow mathematicians, mentors, friends, and families.
It is my tremendous honor to receive the Fields Medal here in Philadelphia. I want to state clearly: this honor does not belong to me alone. It belongs entirely to my two collaborators, Zaher Hani and Xiao Ma.
Over the past several years, we have been climbing the century-old mountain of Hilbert's Sixth Problem. We encountered countless dead ends, overturned our frameworks time and again, and strived to find hidden order within chaotic particle dynamics.
In 1900, Hilbert raised a profound question: if microscopic particles follow reversible Newtonian mechanics, why does the macroscopic world evolve irreversibly? For a long time, physicists relied on intuition to describe fluid behaviors. Our team has endeavored to build rigorous mathematical bridges connecting microscopic particle collisions and macroscopic fluid equations.
I must emphasize that our progress is only a small step on this long journey. Many fundamental questions remain open for future generations of mathematicians.
I sincerely thank the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University, which shaped my foundational mathematical thinking during my undergraduate years. I also thank all my teachers, advisors, and colleagues at MIT and Princeton for their guidance and support.
Most importantly, I thank my family. They have endured my endless hours immersed in equations, tolerated my absence from daily life, and given me the peace and freedom to pursue pure mathematics without distraction.
Mathematics has no borders, yet every mathematician carries the influence of their homeland. As a Chinese mathematician, I hope young researchers worldwide will not fear the difficulty of fundamental mathematics.
Scientific research consists mostly of failure. Inspiration never comes easily. Persistent thinking and long-term dedication are far more important than momentary talent.
To me, mathematics is a lifelong exploration of the fundamental laws of nature. It brings clarity and peace through rigorous logic and eternal truth.
I will continue my research in dynamical systems and partial differential equations, and I look forward to working with young minds to push this field further.
Thank you all.
